KENYA ELECTIONS | FUEL SUPPLY

KAMPALA - Ahead of next month's general elections in neighbouring Kenya, Uganda has assured the public that it is "prepared" and "will continue to do everything possible" to see that there is a "steady supply of petroleum products to the country".

Majority of Uganda's imported fuel comes in through Kenya's Mombasa port.

The rest passes through Tanzania's Dar-es-Salaam port.

And so as Kenya goes to the polls early next month, Uganda's energy ministy says that keeping Uganda well supplied depends on how effective the import routes are kept as well as the storage facilities here.

In a statement released Friday, the ministry said Port Dar-es-Salaam "remains handy in case of supply disruptions on the northern corridor route".

But that would come with a slight rise in pump prices.

Kenyans will choose their new leaders on August 8 in the general elections.

Voters will elect the president and his deputy, members of parliament and devolved government members.
