Skills got from technical and vocational institutions are hands on

Graduates from Pioneer Technical Institute in Iganga have been told to appreciate vocational skills if they are to develop themselves.

This came at a time when most Ugandans view vocational and technical institutes as choices for failures, not knowing that the skills given in these institutions are life skills.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at Omatenga Primary School in Kumi district on Friday, Brent Potts the county director, Habitat for Humanity said if Ugandans learn to appreciate technical and vocational institutions, job seekers will reduce in the country.

"Poverty is for those who are not skilled but once you have skills, you easily fight poverty," Potts said.

He added that skills got from technical and vocational institutions are hands on and students are even taught in their local languages to make them understand better.

"This is a good thing that all Ugandan youth should consider embracing in order to reduce the unemployment levels that increase every year," Potts said.

Kumi County MP, Charles Illukor, advised the graduates not to sit on what they had acquired but to use it to get what they have yearned for in life.
