LUWERO - Mystery surrounds the origin of 59 live bullets that were found in a disused container in Luwero district, central Uganda.

The ammunition, some of it rusted, was found stashed inside a black polythene bag inside a container bought recently by the owners of a private school in Luwero town.

The proprietors of Little Angels Primary School said they reported the rare find to local police after offloading the container which they had bought from a Kampala businessman last weekend.

They were not sure what to make of the strange discovery, something that prompted them to inform the security people.

Savannah regional police spokesman, Paul Kangavve said the recovered bullets are being kept at Luweero Police Station.

They include: 22 AK47 bullets, 20 PK bullets, 12 pistol bullets and five G3 bullets.

Kangavve (pictured) paraded the bullets before reporters, and said police investigations are underway to establish the origin of the mysterious ammunition.

He said they were in the process of collecting statements from authorities of the school and from the unidentified businessman from whom they bought the container.

Jennifer Ayesiga, the officer-in-charge of the nearby Kasana Police Station  was the first person from police to visit the scene.

She said was contacted by the administrators of Little Angles Primary School who got alarmed after finding the bullets inside their newly-purchased container.

Ayesiga and her team found the bag of bullets tucked away inside the corner of the container, before recovering them and taking them to Luwero Police Station.
