KASESE - Three members of the same family died in a road accident in Kasese district, with a fourth also from the family critically injured and admitted at Kilembe Mines Hospital.

The Sunday accident occurred at Kirembe Cell in Kasese Municipality as they were riding on one motorcycle to one of their gardens for work.

They were hit hard from behind by a speeding commuter taxi, causing the deadly crash.

A family source named the survivor as Zephanus Mulhumbira, who was carrying his wife Peregerina Mbambu Mulhumbira, his aunt Pelus Biira and one of his sons, Zephat Masereka.

Muhlhumbira sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Kilembe Mines Hospital.

His brother, David Mulhumbiram, said they were heading to their maize garden for a huge harvest in Rutokye, Muhokya subcounty at around 6.30am local time.

The victims' bodies were taken to Kasese Municipal Health Centre III, where the Rev Dr Peter Muhindo Kibingo conducted postmortem examinations as scores of grief-stricken relatives and sympathizers thronged the premises.

"The deceased died of multiple fractures, dislocations and wounds," said Kibingo after a while.

The ill-fated commuter taxi was towed to Rwenzori East Regional Police headquarters.

The bodies were later taken to Kigoro cell in Rukoki Ward of Kasese Municipality ahead of burial in Kasika village.
