The Government has refuted reports that it has published a Constitutional Amendment Bill to lift the presidential age limit currently capped at 75 years.

This follows media reports that the government, using the recently gazetted Constitutional (Amendment) Bill, is planning to amend Article 102b of the constitution, to lift the age limit.

However, speaking before Parliament on Tuesday, the deputy attorney general Rukutana Mwesigwa told the House chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, that no such amendment has been proposed by the government.

"There is no amendment Bill for lifting of the age limit as yet, the only amendment that has been approved by cabinet, is the Bill on compulsory acquisition of land for public use," Rukutana said.

Some mainstream media platforms and social media are awash with reports of constitutional amendment to lift the presidential age limit. The opposition has even gone overdrive calling on the people to resist the move.
