The event is due September 8-16

For a third time in five months, the host of the 2017 FIBA AfroBasket has changed and now, the tournament is scheduled to take place in two countries, Tunisia and Senegal.

The latest change saw Angola stripped of the hosting rights who themselves had stepped in when Congo Brazzaville pulled out months ago.

With the event due September 8-16 the Africa basketball body FIBA Afrique, confirmed Tunisia and Senegal as the new hosts of the 2017 championships.

The 16 participating teams will be divided into four groups of four in the group phase that runs from September 8-10, with Senegal's capital City of Dakar hosting two groups and Tunisia's capital, Tunis hosting the other two.

The top two teams from each group will advance to Tunis, which will also host the final phase (quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals) from September 14-16.

The Silverbacks booked their ticket to the event after finishing second in the Zone V qualifiers held early this year in Cairo, Egypt.

Nigeria are the reigning champions and are among the top contenders.

Angola, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Cote d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia are the other countries that will take part in the tournament.
