This was revealed by the Indian high commissioner to Uganda, his Excellency Shri Ravi Shanker yesterday at International business, Science and Technology University (ISBAT) during the celebrations of World International Day for Yoga.

To live up to 90years in very good health, you need to exercise Yoga. It is free and you can do it from home as long as you have the tutorials.

This was revealed by the Indian high commissioner to Uganda, his Excellency Shri Ravi Shanker yesterday at International business, Science and Technology University (ISBAT) during the celebrations of World International Day for Yoga.

"Students should start Yoga because it can be started at any age; the benefits of Yoga are evident. Yoga is the food for body and soul. It is not about twisting the body; it is all about controlling your mind and body. With this Kampala Jam, you can do yoga in your home, it is injury free, you are not going to hurt yourself and you do not have to wait for 5:00pm to do it like most people who go to gyms," said Ravi.

He also noted that students can do it during break or lunch time, if many students make it their daily routine, they will never visit the hospital and will have peace with themselves.

Addressing students, the acting vice chancellor of ISBAT University, Sudhindra Bhat, said that though Yoga originates from ancient India, it is not only for Indians, even Africans should start participating.

"If you are unhappy and stressed, you need to start Yoga. It is for all religions. People always ask me how I manage to work for long hours without getting tired, but the secret is in Yoga. We call upon all people to start the sessions," he said.

According to Bhat, Yoga stretches and works muscles that might otherwise go unexercised, and those muscles in turn help to strengthen muscles and tendons that are strained or damaged in some way.

Asked what he has benefitted from Yoga, Dr Balla Turyahumura said that ever since he started Yoga his anger went down; he takes long to get angry.

"Before Yoga, I would get angry so fast, but these days even if you step on me, I just look at you. I used to sleep for long hours, but these days I sleep for only 3-4hours. I am always alert. You cannot understand this if you have not started on the session, but when you join you will know how it works," said Turyahumura.

Where to go for Yoga

Yoga sessions are free at Kabira Country Club every third Saturday of the month. All new beginners can go to the club at 3:00pm. You need to go dressed in trousers to be comfortable.

"All it takes is that first class, and you're well on your way to living a healthier life, and loving yoga. I used to have stomach ulcers in 2014, ever since I joined, I have never felt any complication," said Epharim Mulindwa, who works at URA.
