117 players both men and women have registered for the championship

Kenya Open (June 24-July 1)

With the Kenyan Lawn Tennis Association (KLTA) lifting the ban on Uganda's players Duncan Mugabe and Simon Ayella from taking part in the Britam Kenya Open Tennis Championship, the duo will be expected to feature in the 2017 edition that kicks off on Saturday.

They were banned after engaging in a fight at the end of their quarterfinal doubles games during the one-week annual tennis tournament.

Mugabe will be joined by other Ugandans, David Oringa and Borris Aguma for this year's event that starts with qualifiers.

In the main draw, Mugabe and his counterparts will not be expected to take part in the qualifiers of the seven day contest.

They are expected to set off for Kenya on Saturday morning while Ayella who is yet to confirm his participation, will meet up with the squad there.

"Am happy that I will be competing and I'm ready since I have been training for close to three weeks. We have a good team and I believe that we shall have some good results, "Mugabe stated.

He is one of the top contenders in the men's category while in the ladies' draw, Nancy Onya of the Democratic Republic of Congo will be hoping to build on the experience she gained after taking part last year.

Kenya's Ismail Changawa and his sibling Shufaa Changawa were crowned champions in the men's and women's singles last year.

Shufaa beat second seed Stephanie Mbaya 6-4, 6-6 (7), 6-3 in an all-Kenyan women final while Ismail won the men's category without stepping on court after his opponent in the final, Mugabe, had already been shown the exit.

By Wednesday evening 117 players both men and women had registered for the championship which closed entries on Thursday.
