Uganda Cup: KCCA not shying away from favourites tag

KCCA have a chance to enter the history books if they defeat Paidha Black Angels at the Green Light stadium on Thursday.

Though the mission isn't impossible, it will be rather difficult for the Kampala team that has lost the only match they have played that ground albeit against a different team.

Mike Mutebi's team have had a torrid time in finals and they will be looking to halt the trend against the Zombo based side.

They have lost four of the last finals they have been involved in but Mutebi was in an uncharacteristically jovial mood in the pre-match press conference at the Phillip Omondi Stadium.

The tactician emphasised the need to play a certain brand of football if they want to take the domestic double and live up to their brand of football.

"We are favourites but we shall need to put up a performance that shows that we are favourites."

He further emphasised that revenge will be the least of their worries as they travel to West Nile.

"In football there is no revenge but all we need to do is go there and win. Players have a responsibility to win the double for a great club like this."

With the CAF Confederations Cup match against Rivers of Nigeria on the horizon for KCCA, they will have to make short work of a team like Paidha if they want to join rivals SC Villa as only the second team to take the double.

Confidence and belief in the camp is clearly sky high following two successful CAF Confederation Cup matches at home.

Midfielder Paul Mucureezi spoke about the possibility of the double in the same manner considering they will be making the long journey to the Green Light Stadium with their passionate fans in tow.

"Thursday isn't going to be a challenge; we have played in stadiums with 20,000 fans so that will not be a problem" he said.

"Paidha is no big deal and we shall play it like any final. To us it will be like we are playing against Rivers in the CAF Confederations Cup" the midfielder added.

Mucureezi also played down Villa's achievement as the only holders of the domestic double.

"Our aim is to become legends for this club we don't aim to make it only to the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup but to win it. We can't be thinking of Villa at this time."
