Mariera, Muchiri win Entebbe's Singleton Golf Challenge

The pair of Isaac Mariera and John Muchiri was the last pair standing after beating Collins Nuwagira and Dan Kajungu 2&1 in the final of the Singleton Golf Challenge at Entebbe Club on Saturday.

After 5 months of grueling competition in the four-ball-better-ball format of play competition it is the two that stood tall consequently winning themselves a fully paid trip to Scotland to watch the British Open in July.

En-route to the final they had seen off the pairs of Allan Muhereza and Moses Matsiko, Jerry Owach/George Nkya, Michael Monne/Michael Odur in the earlier rounds that were played every month.

In related development professional golfer Fred Wanzala claimed the biggest share of sh12m after edging Denis Anguyo 3&1 in the professional's category where Vincent Byamukama finished third after beating Phillip Kasozi, 3&2.

The first of its kind, the Singleton challenge has been held in a series of tournaments with 124 players playing on a knock-out basis since January and advancing in every round.

At the 19th hole, themed nights where the order of the day after every round. At the final, Maxi Byenkya and Moses Matsiko were voted the smartest while David Ssekitoleko and Maureen Okura took the smartest themed award at the ‘19th hole'.

Isaac Mariera took the man of the season award while the pair of Kiryowa Kiwanuka and Elly Mukasa took the ‘team of the season award'.

Edward Kabuchu scooped the overall Singleton Award while Gier Chuang was the most consistent player.
