Duncan takes day one as Bukenya chases

Youngster Yusuf Bukenya is optimistic he can make it to the Podium of the Mountains of the Moon rally that ends today in Fort Portal.

Bukenya was motivated by a second position finish behind winner Duncan Mubiru at the super special section held at Boma ground on Saturday afternoon.

Bukenya navigated by sports journalist Frank Sserugo posted a total time of two minutes and 30 seconds, three seconds behind winner Duncan Mubiru Kikankane who posted two minutes twenty seven minutes in Mitsubishi Evo 10.

 

“We are moving on well and finishing second is a big motivation to give us hope for a podium,” Bukenya stated.

Kuku Ranjit (02:30) finished third while Christrakis Fitidis, Hassan Alwi,Musa Kabega, Arthur Blick Jr, Kephar Walubi, Fred Wapamba and doctor Ashraf Ahmed finished fourth,Fifth,Sixth,Seventh,Eighth,Nineth and tenth respectively.

National rally championship (NRC) table leader, Ronald Ssebuguzi dropped out of the event on day one after breaking the central drive shaft.

 

Omar Mayanja also broke the front drive shaft and was towed to the service park by a carrier car to fix the problem.

“We are waiting for the stewards decision whether Omar is still competing or he is driving a super rally,” said one of the safety Marshals.

Drivers today Sunday are attacking the nine competitive stages which include Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru (14.50kms), Rwenzori tea (12.20kms), Mabale (16.76kms), Mpanga (27.09km) and Zaborogota (22.2km).
