Four students of Makerere University who were recently arrested over protesting against Dr. Stella Nyazi's remand at Luzira Prison have been granted bail.

On Wednesday Grade one Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu released them on bail after each presented two substantial sureties.

They include Edmond Kahigi, 22, Stephen Ariho, Roy Rugumayo and Hannigton Mugarura.  They are battling charges of inciting violence contrary to section 83 (1) of the Penal Code Act (PCA).

While releasing them, the magistrate cautioned the accused who were represented by lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde against disrupting court.

"I want to inform you that you owe a duty to respect court. Those in habit of the same must stop it," she said.

The sureties included their parents and friends who tendered in court photocopies of their national identity cards and local council letters.

State attorney Harriet Nakigozi informed court that inquiries in the case are complete and asked court to set the hearing dates. The magistrate adjourned the case to May, 30, 2017 for hearing.

They were arrested at Buganda Road Chief Magistrate's court premises on May 10, 2017, the day Dr. Nyanzi was released on bail by Chief Magistrate James Ereemye Mawanda. They held placards, demanding Dr. Nyanzi's release from Luzira.

Prosecution alleges that on May 10, 2017 at Buganda Road Court in Kampala district without lawful excuse, made statements calculated to incite violence against the public.

On April 10, 2017 Dr. Nyanzi, 42, was charged with two counts of Cyber Harassment and Offensive Communication under section 24, and 25 of the Computer Misuse Act, 2011 before the Magistrate's court.
