One teacher said studies will continue with or without the repairs to the classrooms

Resuming school for the second term hangs in the balance for pupils whose classrooms were blown off by recent heavy rains in Soroti Municipality with authorities financially constrained to do repairs.

Although most government aided schools are expected to resume on 29th May, some pupils of Father Hilder's Primary Schools have already expressed worry over where they will have their next lessons.

"With my classroom roof blown off, I am even more worried with the consistent rains" Dinah Amongin, a primary four pupil told New Vision

The heavy rains on 6th May destroyed a storied building for the staff teachers at Aminit Primary School and classroom blocks including Aminit, Father Hilder's and Moruapesur Primary School both in eastern division, Soroti Municipality.

One teacher at Father Hilder's only identified as Peter explained that studies will continue with or without the repairs to the classrooms, adding that the matter had been forwarded to Municipal Council Authorities.

Paul Omer, the Soroti Municipality Mayor told New Vision that the municipality currently seeks over sh60m to do major repairs on all structures that were affected.

According to Omer, a letter has been written to the Ministries of Disaster Preparedness and Teso Affairs over the current situation.

"Rain is a disaster that actually befell us and I have written to the State Minister of Disaster Preparedness appealing for support over the matter," Omer said.

Moses Ecuru the deputy mayor noted that the municipality is constrained by local revenue collections that could go a long way in addressing such immediate concerns.
