Sim-card registration case dismissed

Judge Musota dismissed the application for temporary Injunction filed by a one Norman Tumumbise and a Human rights Watchdog; Trumpet Ug Ltd.

High court  judge Steven Musota has dismissed a case seeking to block the  Uganda Communications' Communication (UCC) from deactivating all unregistered sim-cards tomorrow on  19th/May 2017.

This means that all unregistered simcards are to be switched off tomorrow unless UCC extends their deadline.

Judge Musota dismissed the application for temporary Injunction filed by a one Norman Tumumbise and a Human rights Watchdog; Trumpet Ug Ltd. that sought to block UCC from switching off unregistered simcard  users until the main case is heard and disposed off.

Justice Musota reasoned that the said application has been overtaken by events as the 7 days ultimatum they were complaining about  was extended for more 30 days which elapse tomorrow.

He therefore ordered lawyers for both UCC who were led by Edwin Karugire and the applicants' lawyer Eron Kiiza to file written submissions on the remaining issue of only recognising the National ID as the official document for this exercise which will be determined on  8th/June 2017.

Usama Ssebuufu the UCC lawyer said that they are now going to prepare for their defence in the main suit, to avoid seeing the process cancelled by court.

Norman Tumuhimbise the national coodinator Jobless Brotherhood said that they are now running to the principal judge to file a complaint against Justice Musota's ruling.
