Silverfin Phillipine coach Head Coach Rosa Rodriguez says the event offers an opportunity to swimmers to improve on their time.

Over 80 swimmers from three clubs take to the Gems Cambridge school pool to assess their progress as they compete in the second edition of the Silverfin club pentathlon on Saturday.

The Pentathlon is a five event race in which all participating swimmers compete in a set of four strokes in equal distance and in the 100 and 200m Individual Medley races.

"This is the third external Pentathlon event in what is now Silverfin's innovative tradition for excellence," club's spokesperson, Naome Wandera said.

Sailfish's Mathew Mwase will be looking to register personal bests

Silverfin Phillipine coach Head Coach Rosa Rodriguez says the event offers an opportunity to swimmers to improve on their time.

"Experience has shown that a swimmer's personal best times are achieved in competitions rather than in training." For swimmers aged 8 years and below, the pentathlon is an opportunity for them to showcase their skill in different strokes in a less stressful environment," Rodriguez stated.

"The regular event helps us to benchmark and take stock of progress, achievements and share best practices, innovations and lessons in critical areas affecting the swimming sport in Uganda and globally," she noted.

Swimmers will also be looking forward to competing in the integrated relays which enhance fanfare to the teams.

Last year, Zaituni Tomusange, Nakasule Kalungi and Ahmed Namanyi returned the best time in the five races. The likes of Plaxida Nakabanda, Nadine Byengoma, Brian Bowmaker, Sonia Mukasa and Eleanor Suubi should be eager to know how far they have moved since last year. Silverfin's White Heather, Selina Katumba, Hannah Kyanda, Jason Malan and Avice Meya will be looking to better their personal bests in the one-day event.

Sailfish has entered 15 with the Seals having 28 while hosts Silverfin have lined up 45 swimmers for the event that will have a morning and an afternoon session.
