Masaka SS win Masaka Regional Copa Coca Cola qualifiers

Masaka Secondary School beat Wagwa High 4-2 on penalties to win the Masaka region Copa Coca Cola champions finals played at the Sports Arena ground, Kitovu on Sunday.

Frank Yiga, Jacob Okao, Donato Okello and Shaban Wasswa scored the winning penalties for Masaka SS with Gonzaga Ssekyewa and Godfrey Munyawera scoring for Kalungu District's Wagwa in the shoot-out.

Wagwa had eliminated Blessed Sacrament Kimaanya with a Frank Ssebuufu solitary goal in the first semifinal played at Muteesa 1 Royal Univesity ground.

On their part Masaka SS had seen off Greenhill SS 5-0, in the second semifinal played at the Sports Arena, through a Ronald Ssempala double as well as other strikes from Frank Yiga, Ibra Matovu and Donato Okello.

The losing semi-finalists and the finalists will now represent the region in the national championships due May 6 -20 in Masaka.

The Deputy Mayor Masaka Municipality Henry Busuulwa who was chief guest urged the players on discipline and the fans to continue supporting school teams as this was the breeding ground for players before they are signed by clubs.

Masaka region chairman William Byuma advised Masaka region's four representatives not to be tempted in using mercenaries as this will lead to automatic disqualification.

Fifteen schools from 8 districts participated in the qualifiers.
