Passenger service trains to head to Luzira and Nalukolongo soon

RVR Uganda, the firm that has the concession to run railway transport in Uganda, plans to roll out to Luzira and Nalukolongo soon.

The passenger service train maybe coming to a place near you soon. Following the success of the passenger train service between the Kampala train station and Namanve. RVR Uganda, the firm that has the concession to run railway transport in Uganda, plans to roll out to Luzira and Nalukolongo soon.

In an exclusive interview with the New Vision, Joram Nyanzi is the General Manager of RVR Uganda, revealed that these routes will be active by early next year.

"We want to work on the Port Bell and Nalukolongo routes. Nalukongo train will take care of Ndeeba, Natete route. The Port Bell route will cover Luzira and Port Bell side," he said.

Nyanzi revealed that plans are underway to rehabilitate the Port Bell railway track which has not been used by a train for over two year. Nalukolongo track meanwhile, is in a good condition because the company uses it.

Nyanzi, who joined RVR from logistics giants Spedag Interfreight last year, says he wants to expand passenger services to other parts of Kampala and neighbouring districts.

"Passenger service train service is my way of talking to people. When we move cargo like steel, fuel, people consume these products but I do not interact with them directly," he said.

He revealed that plans are underway to improve the passenger services between Kampala and Bweyogerere.

"We are going to have proper stages, that we run more scheduled trains so people can plan their journeys around the way the trains move, that we have better coaches."
