Government has been urged to allow the IDs be picked at parish level

Over 2,000 national identification cards are still unclaimed from the offices of the district Electoral Commission in Katakwi.

It's not yet certain whether the owners of the national IDs are subscribers of telecom services who have up to Thursday to update details of all SIM cards.

Ambrose Mwesigye the Katakwi RDC wondered why people above 16 years failed to pick their IDs from June last year despite all attempts by government to extend the days of issuance at lower levels.

Mwesigye reiterated the need for people to pick the IDs because it is a very important document that will be used in the forthcoming Toroma County MP by-election.

Bena Margaret Atim the deputy Katakwi speaker urged government to allow the IDs be picked at parish level since people have so far seen its significance.

The issuance of national IDs to citizens was launched by President Yoweri Museveni in December 2014 and it rolled out to districts in the country.
