Bishop castigates MPs for dishonorable conduct

The Bishop of Mukono diocese, James William Ssebaggala has challenged Members of Parliament to endeavour to live honourable and exemplary lives.

Ssebaggala said unfortunately today, legislators are doing a lot of things which lower their dignity yet they are supposed to walk an upright life.

"We have just seen a legislator who was remanded to Luzira for selling land which did not belong to him. Another one failed to pay his rent dues and he was thrown out of the theatre in Kampala," Ssebaggala said.

He also cited the case in which the Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Herbert Kabafunzaki, allegedly solicited a sh10m bribe.

"It's so unfortunate that corruption and embezzlement is increasing and from the big shots in government. Something should be done," he said.

Ssebaggala made the remarks on Easter Sunday during his summon at Saints Phillips and Andrew's Cathedral in Mukono Municipality.

He also commented about mass re-registration of SIM cards as directed by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and Uganda Police saying its unfortunate that such things are never consistent.

"We've had operation ‘Fiika Salaama', the instalment of seat belts in taxis, the purchase of helmets by bodaboda riders, operation don't drink and drive and many others but they just work for a period of time," Ssebaggala said.

He added that Uganda has good and strong laws which if properly implemented can save the situation but the law enforcers are so reluctant and just wakeup after the situation worsens.
