37 arrested in Kabale operation

Police in Kabale has detained 37 people arrested in a Monday morning operation in Kabale Municipality.

According to the Kigezi regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, the operation that took place just a few days to Easter celebrations followed a series of complaints from locals over the increased crime rate in the area.

"We have been hearing of increasing robbery, murder and drug abuse in this town. Today we decided to look out for the responsible criminals," said Maate.

He said Police used locals to trap the suspects from their hideouts in Kigongi, Bugongi, Kekubo and other spots within the municipality.

Some suspects according to Maate were found in video halls while others were found consuming drugs like marijuana and cocaine.

He said that such operations will continue within the town so as to reduce crime.
