Vision Group CEO Robert Kabushenga has urged well-to-do families to use their status to empower the underprivileged Ugandans.

Kabushenga made the appeal  in his speech to the staff and students of St.Lawrence University (SLAU) where he had delivered kit for the Kabaka Birthday Run.

"When you are here don't think life is the same to all. Walk just outside this university fence and see how many people are living in poverty, some with one meal a day," Kabushenga said.

"If you are in a privileged position, use it to help others. In this campaign, we are creating awareness to have those suffering from the sickle cell anaemia get treated," Kabushenga added.

"All in all my appeal to you is that learn to give to the unprivileged person out there," Kabushenga stressed.

He cited an example of a poor American woman Oseola McCarty who donated her $150, 000 (about sh541m)to the University of South Mississippi.

Oseola's donation helped to create the Oseola McCarthy foundation that offers scholarships to African Americans.

The university council chairman Mike Sebalu thanked Kabushenga and Vision Group for helping the poor.

Kabushenga also received contributions from Top Finance Bank (sh2.5m), Riham (sh3m), Ntake Bakery (sh2m), Viva General Hardware (sh500,000), Mamba Hardware and Spare parts (sh500,000).

This year's proceeds will go towards fighting sickle cell anaemia disease.

The six organisation promised continued support towards the event.

Tickets for the run go for only sh10,000 and can be got at Vision Group offices, Airtel Wampewo, Post Bank branches in Ndeeba, Jinja Road, Kikuubo and Nkrumah road branches.

The annual event is sponsored by Airtel, Bukedde, Rwenzori Water, Post Bank and Events Warehouse.
