Kagadi receives sh271m youth dev't fund

Emmanuel Turanziomwe, the Kagadi District youth chairman applauded the ministry of gender and social development for championing the cause of the youth in the District.

Kagadi District has received sh271m youth livelihood funds under the ministry of gender, labour and social development to support various youth projects and enhance the level of income among self-employed youth.

Kagadi distric chairperson, Steven Byaruhanga Nfashingabo, said the  youth will plan for the money and fully utilize it.

"There is a tendency of some youth to misappropriate the money by diverting it to unproductive ventures and other programs that do not yield good returns. This time round, we shall be serious with the money. Any youth who misuses it will be dealt with,'' said Byaruhanga.

Byaruhanga disclosed that at least 29 groups in Kagadi District that registered are expected to benefit from the funds.

He asked community development officers, sub county chiefs and sub county youth chairpersons, to be more vigilant in monitoring the groups.

He pledged to work with relevant officers such as the community development officer and sub-county chiefs to ensure that funds are put to effective use.

He requested for more funding from the ministry saying there are numerous youth projects that have not received support.

''We requested for about sh400m but we received sh271m. There are many groups that need support. I request the ministry to avail more funds,'' said Turanzomwe.

Mary Natukunda, the district gender officer, challenged female youth to get involved in developmental projects meant to enhance their income.

Steven Banakola, the district youth focal person said some civil servants who had diverted the money of the youth fund were arrested and forced to return the money.
