Police today cordoned off Sharing Hall Nsambya in Kampala where several DP members led by Mukono MP Betty Nambooze had planned to meet and challenge the position of party president Norbert Mao.

At about 8am there was heavy deployment at the hall with Police officers donning anti-riot gear ready to bar the party members including journalists access to the premises.

Several leaders of Uganda Youth Democrats (UYD) including the secretary general, Charles Wasswa were arrested and taken to Kabalagala Police Station.

UYD members accuse Mao together with other National Resistance Movement-leaning opposition Members of Parliament of already fronting a candidate for the 2021 general elections.

At about 10am, Nambooze together with Ali Kasirye Mulyanaya the Makindye Division Mayor arrived in a Mitsubishi Pajero and her fans started chanting DP slogans.

She was ordered by ASP Isaac Mugerwa the Kabalagala Division Police Commander to get out of the car but in vain.

Nambooze later agreed to vacate the venue as Police stopped her supporters from going close to her vehicle which sparked off a scuffle between her guards and Police.

One of her guards yet to be identified was arrested and taken to Nsambya Police Station but was later transferred to Kabalagala.

"Why are you blocking me from talking to my people, I have a right as a Ugandan and a citizen of this country to have a meeting." Nambooze told Mugerwa.

Following a long chat with Mugerwa, Nambooze agreed to open her vehicle after which she was detained with Kasirye and whisked an unknown location.
