He was rushed to Tororo Hospital from where his wound was stitched up and put under immediate treatment

The chairman of Osukuru Sub County in Tororo district, John Paul Okanya, on Wednesday survived death by a whisker when he was hit with a pick axe on the head.

Okanya was attacked by his neighbour Janet Adikinyi who had deployed people to dig up the foundation of a building extension into Okanya's family gate at his home in Osukuru Corner trading center.

Adikinyi also blocked the access road that has been used by the community since time immemorial to go to a well.

Adikinyi the wife to National Resistance Movement (NRM) district administrative secretary Kirumi Mawele picked up the axe in a surprise attack that left Okanya soaked in a pool of blood.

Okanya was rushed to Tororo Hospital from where his wound was stitched up and put under immediate treatment to regain consciousness.

Police rushed to rescue Adikinyi from a mob that wanted to lynch her. She was detained at Osukuru Police Post where officers said she will be charged with assault and causing grievous harm.
