Police boss dies in Entebbe Road accident

The Thursday morning downpour blocked visibility of a senior Police officer, that saw his car ram into another, along Entebbe Road. 

The accident, claimed the life of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Moses Ocitia, Police has announced.

Until this morning, Ocitia was the officer in-charge of Bulenga Police Post in Kampala Metropolitan North. Bulenga is under Kawempe Police Station.

In a condolence message, the Police Spokesperson Asan Kasingye, said "He should Rest in Peace." His Predecessor, Fred Enanga said the incident, is very unfortunate.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima said the accident took place at Lubowa along Entebbe Road while he was driving his private car registration number UAD 171W.

"He crushed into a vehicle from the opposite direction, a super custom registration number UAT 610S, white in color," Kayima noted in a press statement sent to media houses early this morning.

According to Kayima, Ocitia was rushed to Mulago hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Adding that, his body in Mulago awaiting a postmortem to be done.

"We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and the Police fraternity as well as to the people of Bulenga where he was OC at the time of death. May his soul rest in peace," the Police statement dated March 30, read in part.

According to the Police Annual crime and traffic report of 2014, a total of 18,686 crashes were reported out of which 2,518 (13.5%) were fatal, 9,259 (48.2%) sustained serious injuries and 6,909 (35.9 %) minor cases were reported.

The report revealed that there was a 1.7% increase in the number of accidents reported in 2014 from 18,368 in 2013 to 18,686 in 2014.

Causalities 
There was an increase of 3.3% in the number of casualties from crashes on Ugandan roads in 2014. The total number of vehicles involved in crashes was 29,174. 

According to the report, this was 6% more than the vehicles that were involved in 2013. 

A total of 188,792 traffic offenders were fined under the express penalty scheme for the various traffic offences.
