World Cross Country will be a success - Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has expressed excitement over Uganda's hosting of the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country event.

The athletics event is due this Sunday (March) 16 at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala. It is the first time Uganda is hosting the biennial sporting event and the Ugandan leader trusts all will go well.

"We are very happy Uganda is hosting it, everything has been arranged and there will be no problem," said Museveni.

As many as 60 nations confirmed participation and already, a number of them have already jetted in as per schedule.

Admitting having a special liking for sports, which he said is good for health and fitness, the president made the remarks this week at his Kawumu presidential farm in Luweero district.

He assured the world sportsmen and women of security during their stay in the country, adding that everything will be successful.

Only three African countries have previously hosted the world event.

Morocco hosted the third edition in 1975, South Africa was next in 1996, before Morocco hosting it again, in 1998 and Kenya in 2007.
