Tiriniyi accident claims three

A road accident near Tirinyi trading centre in Kibuku district on Sunday afternoon claimed three lives leaving scores of others injured.

According to Musa Naiza, an eyewitness, a speeding omnibus traveling from Mbale side rammed headon into a Noah saloon car before overturning several times.

The incident that took place shortly after 3.00pm occurred adjacent to Mpologoma river. This water body separates Kibuku and Namutumba districts.

"People rushed to the scene where the mangled omnibus lay on its side against a tree. The bodies were pulled out of the wreckage as some survivors writhed in pain," Naiza narrated.

Herbert Kinobere, the Kibuku MP told New Vision that he had received the information about the accident in his constituency.

" My constituent relayed that information to me via whatsapp. It is quite an unfortunate incident especially given that three people have lost their lives," Kinobere said.

Boney Okoyi, the district police commander confirmed the incident saying one male and two female adults had perished in the road carnage.

By press time the victims had not yet been identified as their bodies lay in the mortuary at Kibuku health centre IV.

Okoyi appealed to motorists to respect traffic regulations especially those pertaining to speed so as to save lives.
