Rugby league: Mongers outlast Impis

Mar 13, 2017

Levi Etuku's side ease past a much-changed Impis side 38-03.

Sadolin Mongers faced a much changed Makerere Impis side in what was supposed to be a serious whitewash for the students who instead put up a dogged show of resistance in their 38-03 loss in Entebbe at the weekend.

Having suffered their biggest loss of the season in their 80-06 dismantling by Betway Kobs, the Mongers thought they could manage the same feat.

Manager Levi Etuku was quick to criticize his team for not doing so in the first half.

"I am very dissatisfied by our performance especially considering the nature of our opponents. We should have done better in that first half."

The Makerere side had a better first half of the two teams and indeed they pegged down the home team into some serious defensive errors although they failed to capitalize on that early form.

Etuku also credited his side for having come back and put on a better display in the second half as they managed to put the game to bed.

"I am relived the boys managed to stabilize in the second half and go to back to the game plan. Our attitude today was immense because we did not stop fighting until we got the result we wanted."

With the trophy long gone, next up for Mongers is a date with Mutoni Warriors this Saturday at Legends Rugby Grounds which will help decide how the other teams will finish on the log.
