It was a moment to savor for the winners but in some what unfamiliar proceedings of the UCA awards Saturday at Lugogo oval

Indeed unusual in the sense that it was always uncharacteristic for the UCA no to host an awards dinner. Well, it was a different script during the 2016 awards with the dinner out of the picture!

Officials from within the cricket board claim that they were simply behind time for this year's program; that involves a mouthful of activities to prepare for the dinner.

None the less it was a rude awakening for some of the players who really wanted to kick off the cricket season with pomp- UCA dinners always carry the best moments in local crickets.

However the winners had to bag their accolades; the issue of the Tornado gate seemed to officially have been buried as Tornado Bee walked away with the Trophy and a dummy cheque of Sh5m.

"We have finally and officially taken what rightfully belonged to us. This is a sweet moment for the team and hope to build on this success this season" said Jeremy Kibuuka Musoke, Tornado Bee skipper.

Tornado Bee took the lion's share as the Women's side took home the division one trophy and Sh1.5m. coach Jackson Ogwang was every inch a happy man having powered his girls to the 2016 edition.

Siva Kotti's Aziz Damani who won the second Men's division with a one hundred percent record had Sh2m. surprisingly they offered to give the money to UCA. They will now focus their charges on this year's division one trophy having qualified to the top tier.

This was Bashir "Badu" Ansasira's first main ceremony as the new UCA chairman though it remains debatable wheather this kind of ceremony without a dinner was a good start in office.
