Cranes open their qualifying campaign against Cape Verde in June

Uganda Cranes is set to play its first international match since the AFCON finals in Gabon on March 21st.

Both FUFA and their Kenya counterparts said the match is intended to prepare their respective sides for June's 2019 AFCON qualifiers.

FUFA officer in charge of international competitions Patrick Ogwel, confirmed the development saying the federation received a number of invitations to play friendlies matches ahead of the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.

Ogwel said Cranes will start with a friendly match against the Harambee Stars in Nairobi before engaging in the AFCON 2019 qualifiers. 

Uganda is drawn in Group L alongside Cape Verde, Tanzania and Lesotho while Kenya is with Ghana, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone in Group F.

Cranes open the qualifying campaign against Cape Verde on June 13th while Kenya takes on Sierra Leone on the same day.

Football Kenya Federation media liaison officer Barry Otieno, had initially told media in Kenya that the match will be played at Nyayo Stadium on March 22nd before they are due to host DR Congo three days later in another friendly.

The last friendly match between Uganda and Kenya ended in a goalless draw in August last year before the Cranes played Comoros to qualify for AFCON 2017 in Gabon.
