Women urged to instill Godly values in their children

KAMPALA - Apart from grooming children to be hardworking citizens, mothers have also been urged to instill Godly values in them.

Speaking during a one-day workshop on child upbringing organised by the Nile Dialogue Platform and Uganda Muslim Women Vision Centre for Buganda Women in Bweyogerere, activist Hajat Aisha Namukwaya said children must be raised to reflect values of their families.

"If you raise children to be God-fearing, they will reflect that wherever they go. They are never shaken even when they face problems. At a time when you depart from this world your children will survive without you."

She added that mothers are in most cases blamed when their children go wrong but this could be reversed if they initially groomed their children well.

Mariam Nankya, a counselor, said it is the responsibility of mothers to ensure that their children exhibit the best values in the communities they live.

Nankya also advised Muslim mothers to refer to the Koran in case they are faced with divergent issues on children's morals.

"Islam is natural, it does not contradict with science, all guidelines are explained in the Koran. Unfortunately many mothers spare no time to read the Koran, a reason they cannot guide their children well," she noted.
