An irate mob on Sunday evening assaulted three people suspected to have been  impersonating  UMEME officials, leaving them in critical condition.

The mob also set a blaze their  double cabin pick up UAL 003D after they were reportedly found vandalizing electricity wires in a section of power in Makauri village in Kisoko sub county Tororo.

The officer in charge of Kisoko police post Silifano confirmed that the mob descended on to the suspects after they failed to identify themselves.

He said the suspects reportedly went to the area at 8 pm after the area experienced power load shading an incidence that attracted suspicion from the public after a number of electric lines had been vandalized in the sub county.

The officer added that before the mob started beating them, they posed to be employees of ‘'ENRON'' power supply company that they claimed to have been contracted by Electricity Regulatory Authority to maintain rural electricity power lines in the area and that they were on their normal duties to inspect faulty lines.

An eye witnesses said one of the suspects was removing electricity wires from the poles while the others were busy folding and parking it onto their double cabin and after seeing people gathering one of them signaled a colleague to stop as the two pretended to communicate on phone but they were unlucky because members of the community had monitored their acts.

One of the suspects, Akol Emmanuel told police that they were on their routine duty of inspecting faulty sections of their power lines to ensure that their clients don't experience load shading.

The police said none of the supects has been arrested but they are still investigating to ascertain the authenticity of the claims.
