The Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Vincent Bamulangaki Sempijja, has applauded Makerere University School of Food Science and Nutrition for its innovative ways of promoting job creation.

Sempijja while touring Makerere University Agricultural Institute, Kabanyoro, said that support to small and medium enterprises is one way of promoting value addition in agriculture produce.

Prof. John Muyonga, dean of the School of Food Science at Makerere University, observed the need by the Ministry to consider building the capacities of farmers in establishing rural drying centres to promote agro-processing even in rural areas.

He said that there is a need to promote hands on agro-processing if industrialization is to be boosted in the country.

"We have 12 commodities we are currently promoting in value addition even at community level but we need your collaboration in order to realise success" said Muyonga.

The assistant commissioner primary processing and value addition, Moses Kasigwa, noted that a lot of work is going on at Makerere without the ministry being involved or getting to know them yet they are promoting the same goal.

He said his ministry has developed an agro-processing and market strategy which will help in the promotion of capacity building in value addition at community level.
