Wolves U-17 junior team beat Police Armless Brigade 2-0 to win the second edition of the Uganda Youth Football League Inter Cities U-17 Youth football tournament at Villa Park on Saturday.

Walter Alele's double strike in either half ensured the Nsambya side won the annual tournament that attracted over 30 teams from different centers across the country.

Despite playing more entertaining football that won them many admirers, Police made two costly mistakes; first when they failed to clear their lines and when midfielder Abdu Kigongo carelessly lost possession deep in the opponents half from which they counter-attacked and scored.

En-route to the finals, Wolves had eliminated Kajjansi 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw while Police had seen off Good News with a 3-0 win with eventual top scorer Emma Iyeset grabbing a hat-trick.

PEP Stores, South Africa's largest single brand retailer gave the winners scholarships worth sh4m while runners-up Police got sh2, with third placed Kajjansi getting sh1m on top of the medals and trophies.

Co-sponsor Elite Agencies Managing Director Zam Nabitalo advised the children to continue developing their talents, but ensure they pursue academics alongside the sport.

The tournament started three weeks ago with over 400 children in action at different Centers of Excellence across the country.
