Zindzi Mandela will meet President Yoweri Museveni and Speaker Rebecca Kadaga

South Africa's Ambassador to Denmark, Zindzi Mandela will visit Uganda next week and is expected to lay a foundation stone where a youth Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) is going to be built in Jinja district.

Zindzi Mandela is the youngest of Nelson and Winnie Mandela's two daughters and was active in South Africa's anti-apartheid movement.

This was revealed by Uganda's Ambassador to Nordic countries, Zaake Kibedi during a press conference on Thursday at Crested Crane Hotel. Zaake said he will host his counterpart for five days in the country.

He said the TIC worth sh200m will be constructed in Masese, Walukuba division in Jinja district adding that Mandela is expected to lay a foundation stone for its construction.

Kibedi further said that Mandela is expected to arrive in the country on January 24th and pay South Africa's High Commissioner in Uganda a courtesy call and meet President Yoweri Museveni on the 25th.

"On January 26th, Mandela is expected to visit the Mandela National Sports Stadium that was named after her father Nelson Mandela and also visit the Uganda Martyrs Shrine at Namugongo" Kibedi said.

He said on the 27th, Mandela will pay a courtesy call to the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga and also meet and address the Parliamentary Forum for Children.

Mandela who is also the Managing Trustee for Mandela Children's Foundation and founder and director for Mandela Legacy, will address Uganda Youth Network and the National Youth Council at Hotel Africana.

Kibedi said Mandela will be the chief guest at the fundraising drive to be organized at Busoga Square in Jinja on January 28th for the construction of the TIC.

Kibedi who is also the patron of Busoga Development Link Organization (BDL), said the Danish Technology Institute (DTI) is working in partnership with his organization and the Uganda Industrial Research Institute to construct the TIC.

"People employed by government are less than 400,000 but the centre, once in place will rejuvenate innovation in the region and create jobs for youth. This idea will also be shared with government so that it replicates it in other regions," Kibedi said.

He said Busoga Development Link is targeting to invite 300 guests that will each contribute about sh500,000 at the fundraising in order to get sh150m and the organization will further mobilise for the remaining sh50m to make a total of sh200m that is expected to be used in construction of the main building of the TIC in Walukuba.
