KAMPALA - The results of last year's Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) are scheduled to be released today in Kampala.

The minister of education and sports, First Lady Janet Museveni, is set to release the results of some 640,860 candidates who sat the 2016 final primary exams.

Meanwhile, results for last year's O'Level exams are also expected to be released any time after today, as is the case normally.

UNEB secretary Dan Odongo had said that marking of the PLE and UCE (O'Level) exams had been done before the festive season.

This, he had said, was so results would be released "as early as possible to enable our students get ample time to prepare for the next level".

A Primary Seven (P7) candidate is deemed to have passed the exams if they score between aggregate four and 28. To score aggregate four, a candidate must have got a distinction in all the four papers.

On this day last year, the 2015 PLE results were released, with results of as many as 909 candidates withheld. This statistic, however, was less than that of the previous year (1,344).

Last year, Entebbe, Kabale, Mbarara, Fort Portal and Mukono Municipalities registered lowest failure rates.
