As Uganda People's Congress (UPC) party kicks off the New Year observing the need for a dialogue geared towards consensus-building, the party leadership has pleaded with members who left but still have love for the party to return home ( to the party).

Michael Osinde Orach pointed out that last year during the general elections, former party chief Olara Otunu and Joseph Bbosa rooted support for the presidential candidate, Amama Mbabazi and duped some party members into following them.

He also noted that the duo did not only join the Go-Forward, Amama's pressure group, but also had intentions of 'selling' UPC to The Democratic Alliance (TDA), but were stopped by current party president, Jimmy Akena.

"Unfortunately, there are some members of the party who were misled by these two and left the party. We are open and ready to welcome all the members especially those who did not break the constitution of the party, and still love and have it at heart," Osinde said.

"There is room for reconciliation, save for those who misled other party members. We are ready to dialogue as a way to continue strengthening our party," he added.

He made the remarks during the party's first press conference this year held at party headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday.

In June last year, opposition political parties and other activists formed a grand coalition, The Democratic Alliance, to challenge President Museveni and the ruling NRM in the general elections and all other polls, but they did not succeed.
