UTA last appeared in international games in 2012

Ugandan tennis players are to return to the international arena.

This was after the National Council of Sports together with Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) offered $6000(sh21.5m) and $1000 (sh3.5m) respectively to help Uganda Tennis Association to clear a debt of US$25000 (sh89.9m) which they owed International Tennis Federation (ITF).

UTA last appeared in international games in 2012 when ITF and the Confederation of Africa Tennis (CAT) scraped it off the international calendar due to failure to meet affiliation payments.

According to the General Secretary UTA Dean Kibirige, NCS signed an agreement with ITF to allow Ugandan players have a chance to compete internationally beginning next year as they complete depositing the remaining sums of money in installments .

"We as UTA are happy to inform the public that beginning next year, we shall be having our players take part in international games after getting assistance from NCS and UOC who have helped us on our road to clearing all our debts that we owe ITF," Kibirige stated after addressing the press on Friday at Lugogo Tennis Complex.

NCS will be expected to complete the debt in installments of $5500(sh19.7m) next year in the months of February and May.m.
