Ugandans living in the diaspora are requesting the Government to provide them with National Identity cards.

This was requested by Ronald Mayanja the executive director of Ugandan Diaspora Network at Uganda Media Center during the announcing of the ‘Home is best Diaspora summit 2016' scheduled for December  21, 2016 at Hotel Africana.

"Some of us managed to come back home to register but when we went to Kololo they told us to wait. We have been waiting and there is no communication. We are also Ugandans. We want to fit in our country. If we are denied such a fundamental right, we feel segregated," Mayanja said.

The home is the best summit brings together Ugandans from different countries connecting them to public policy makers and major players in the private sector. The summit started in 2004 becoming a voice for Ugandan Diaspora to raise concerns and thoughts on social, political and economic state of the nation.

The summit has taken place in different parts of the country: Mbale, Kampala, Gulu and Jinja. The summit has sparred economic growth.

This year the Uganda Investment Authority hopes to convince more Ugandan Diaspora to investment more back home.

"We want more Ugandans to invest back home because they have the money and such investment help our economy," Lawrence Byensi, UIA Acting executive director said.

It takes place in December when most of Ugandans trek home to join their families during the festive season.
