Regional university games kick off mid-December

The games will attract over 3000 athletes who will compete in different sports disciplines.

As many as seven universities will represent Uganda at the 10th edition of the Eastern Africa University Games in Kenya.

 The week-long sporting event is scheduled to kick off on December 15 until 22 at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in the northeast of the capital Nairobi.

Ndejje University, Uganda Christian University, Kampala University, Kampala International University are some of the Uganda universities expected to take part.

But record winners Makerere University may not part because the November 1 closure of the institution has not given them room to prepare themselves.

Over 20 universities from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Zanzibar among others will take part. Uganda's representatives are expected to depart for the games on Tuesday.

The games will attract over 3000 athletes who will compete in different sports disciplines namely; athletics, basketball, chess, darts, handball, hockey, Karate, netball, rugby, scrabble, soccer, swimming, table tennis, lawn  tennis, volleyball, woodball.

Ndejje University are the reigning champions, having won the ninth edition in 2014 at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono.

UCU become only the second Ugandan university - after Makerere - to host the biennial event.
