Hepatitis B vaccination: Soroti health centres overwhelmed

Nov 21, 2016

The mass vaccination for Hepatitis B virus currently targets those who are aged 15 and above.

Soroti district health office has reported a shortage in health workers as the district implements the mass Hepatitis B vaccination exercise.

The Hepatitis B vaccination exercise was flagged off last week amid a mass outcry following the 7.2 prevalence rate in the Teso sub-region alone.

District health educator Martin Amodoi says since the activity started, the health centres have been overwhelmed by people turning up for vaccination services.

Despite the overwhelming number of people rushing to be vaccinated, the numbers of health workers to administer the vaccines are very few, making it difficult for them to cater for all.

Freddie Alunyu, the in-charge at Gweri Health Centre-III agrees, saying they are overwhelmed by the response.

The mass vaccination for Hepatitis B virus currently targets those who are aged 15 and above.

It is being conducted every Tuesdays and Fridays at Health Centre-III's and IV's plus the main Referral Hospital in Soroti.
