District chairman arrested over livestock market

He's been arrested under the orders of the area RDC Herbert Muhangi.Kamurali was got from the bushes in Ntantamuki, Endinzi sub-county where he was hiding after he visited Kamwema livestock market also in Endinzi Sub County and declared it open.

The chairman LC 5 for Isingiro district has been arrested and put to prison after attempting to re-open the animal markets that were closed down by the government following the outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

Police fired tear gas and live bullets to disperse locals in Endinzi sub-county, who had blocked the road protesting the chairman's arrest.

Addressing the locals who turned up for the opening of the markets, Kamurari declared that livestock trading starts on Monday.

The ministry of animal husbandry has maintained that livestock markets in Isingiro district remain closed due to the ongoing foot and mouth disease quarantine.  

Dr. Nicholas Kauta - the ministry's director for animal resources adds that the livestock markets also remain closed.
