Value volunteer work - Korean ambassador

Park advised unemployed youth to exploit the opportunities available in their localities by being volunteers in various sectors as the best way of increasing awareness, acquiring knowledge and experiences.

Korean Ambassador, Park Jong, has urged the general public to value the contribution of youth volunteers to motivate them reach their dreams.

 "All of us should recognize the contribution of volunteers to different sectors which will be a catalyst to help them reach their goals in the nation's development," Park Jong said.

He made the remarks during a one-day volunteer workshop in Kampala.

Park advised unemployed youth to exploit the opportunities available in their localities by being volunteers in various sectors as the best way of increasing awareness, acquiring knowledge and experiences.

"The youth need to change their mindset that money is everything instead they should think more on being creative and innovative," Park said.

He said this would help them transform their challenges into business opportunities through volunteerism," Park said.

He urged them to build a culture of volunteering that would help them in self-employment and for better knowledge.

Park said that all together we have an opportunity to build a bridge between the work of countless volunteers around the world and the dreams that we have for a better world.

He recognized the role played by government of Uganda's ministries, departments and agencies for enabling KOICA to have smooth cooperation.

Ritah Tumuhimbise, the Volunteer Programme Administrator of Korea International Cooperation Agency, Uganda pointed out that they together with government would formulate strategies that will ensure an enabling environment for the promotion and practice of volunteerism among many sectors of the Uganda's society.

She said volunteers' contributions should be much acknowledged and appreciated because its impact has continued to manifest both at national development level as well as their own personal growth and future prospects for stability.

KOICA has been focusing on comprehensive rural development to enhance the productivity of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries industries and the quality of lives of farming village residents of partner countries..
