300 Karamoja people to face eviction

Moroto Municipal authorities have announced plans to evict over 300 people occupying their houses at Junior quarters and other residences.

The town clerk Moroto Municipality, Alex Felix Majeme says the move is intended to improve on state of the structures currently in condemned status with very dilapidated sanitary facilities.

Majeme notes that the eviction will start with rent defaulters that he observed are many in the quarters.

Moroto Municipality has 94 housing units accommodating mostly employees within Moroto Municipality and the district and some few staff from other districts of Karamoja especially Napak.

The eviction date has not yet been fixed but the authorities say they are finalizing with the required procedures to effect the plan.
