Bebe Cool, Kenzo and Sheebah lose out at MTV Africa Music Awards

Nigerian afro-pop star Wizkid and South Africa's Olympic gold medalist Caster Semenya won top prizes at the ceremony.

Ugandan artistes on Saturday lost MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) to artistes from other countries. Kenzo lost the Best Live Act accolade to Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Bebe Cool lost to Jah Prayzah (Zimbabwe) in Listeners Choice category whereas Sheebah  Karungi lost to Youssoupha (Congo) for the Video of the year category.

 

They had different reactions after losing the awards.

Kenzo claimed that the awards are political. "Politics here,"Kenzo tweeted.

Bebe Cool however, said, being nominated is as important as winning an award. "Hard luck, but I want to thank all my fans for the love and support you showed me and Uganda as a whole. Being nominated is as big as a win; let's keep the flag of Uganda high," said Bebe Cool.

Karungi, by press time had not commented on the awards.
