In the past if you were to make any random survey on the road, many people would say that women tend to be better drivers.

While a few people would argue with the fact that men tend to be more mechanically inclined and as such more knowledgeable about how cars work, the truth women are considered to be the better drivers.

However, this has changed as we now see many female drivers feel "they own the road".

Many have turned to be aggressive in behavior and exhibit road rage. They believe the road is ' theirs' and disregard others and tend to be possessive or territorial in their driving habits. This is common among the so called corporate ladies who are driving their first cars and feel the world owes them recognition. They overtake in blind spots, use vulgar words and body language while on roads.

Most people will agree that the majority of women are born with innate motherly instincts. These instincts make women more conscientious, courteous, humble and caring. Well nurtured ladies have a natural tendency to want to protect those around themselves. This is not so with the young female drivers we have on the roads today

It is also taken, that women are better at learning and obeying rules. Women have a much better ability to learn rules than men do. This fact is also attributed to the hormone estrogen and this explains why well-groomed female drivers tend to be cited for far fewer traffic violations.

The young female drivers of today have violated the natural tendency to absorb and obey the rules than could promote safety on the roads. It is common to see them driving children to school without buckled seat belts, creating unwanted traffic lines on the road and virtually not respecting the traffic signs and codes.

Drink driving is one of the leading causes of traffic accidents and fatalities. This has always been pegged to the male drivers as they are likely to take drugs and drink before getting behind the wheels.

A random survey on the Kampala roads over the weekends after night binges, you will be shocked to find the number of the young female drivers who are driving under the influence of alcohol.

It is sad that the mother instincts in the young female drivers has vanished as they are seen driving on road shoulders and whenever they are apprehended by the traffic cops, they tend to draw sympathy from the cops as women .
