Assessors find Lwamafa, Obey innocent in pension scam

In the case of abuse of office, Lwamafa and Obey had been charged with abuse of their authority and requisitioned for payments for 2605 false pension beneficiaries.

Assessors have found the former Permanent Secretary of Public Service, Jimmy Lwamafa, Stephen Kunsa Kiwanuka, the Ministry's Director of Research and Development, Christopher Obey, the Ministry's Principal Accountant, innocent to the charges of embezzling about sh88b.

The assessors want the trio acquitted, saying the sate failed to bring evidence against the three.

Judgment for case will be on November 11.

They allegedly committed the offence over a period of three financial years from October 2009 to September 2012
