Ziggy Dee still basking in "Queen of Katwe" money

Ziggy Dee (born Adam Lutaaya) was, on Sunday, heard during prayers at Evangelical Truth Ministries (ETM) church, Salaama road, testifying how he earned $2000 (approx. sh6m) from "Queen Of Katwe" production team for using his aforesaid hit-song on the movie.

He might be off the music industry, and no longer churning out club bangers as he did in 2003 with his hit-song "Eno Mic." But so you know, that song is still taking him places and planting some fortune in his coffers.

The source that attended prayers disclosed that Ziggy Dee testified before the congregation about his fortune and even went ahead to flaunt receipts to confirm his kill, "I was in church on Sunday and saw Ziggy Dee give a testimony that he was paid $2000 for using his song in Queen Of Katwe. His Mzungu wife also testified getting a job at Germany Embassy," disclosed the source.
 
The Walt Disney production sports drama, set in Katwe, a Kampala slum, tells a life-story of a Ugandan chess prodigy who rose from rags in Katwe to become a women candidate master.

Besides Ziggy Dee, the film also sampled over 20 Ugandan songs from artistes like Bobi Wine, Afrigo Band, A-Pass, Irene Namatovu, Ks Alpha,Young Mulo, Jose Chameleone, Mozey Radio/Weasel, Maddox Ssematimba, Nsubuga Saava Karim, Eddy Kenzo, Joanita Kawalya, Micheal Kiwanuka and Rainbow House Of Hope Brass Band on the film, alongside other international acts like American star Alicia Keys.

The film is to be premiered in Uganda on September 30, at Century Cinemax, Kampala.

Ziggy Dee has since become a gospel artiste, performing in churches, kilometres away from clubs and pubs that were his citadels in his pomp.
