The charcoal was impounded in the sub counties of Lamogi and Pabo

The district council committee of Amuru is convening a meeting this week to agree on a price to auction over 1390 bags of impounded charcoal.

This was revealed by the Amuru LC5 chairperson Michael Lakony who said that after they have agreed on the price the charcoal, it shall be auctioned.

"I stopped charcoal burning in the district because of environment degradation" Lakony said.

Lakony who has been dragged to court by charcoal dealers is not worried of the court outcome saying that he took an oath to protect the environment.

The 27-year-old district leader from the FDC party has vowed to tussle it out in court since his detractors (charcoal dealers) claim that they bought trees from the communities and therefore, he doesn't have the power to impound their charcoal.

He said the district council committee resolved to put a ban on charcoal burning in the district and the ban is indefinite.

He explained that the impounded charcoal is being kept at Amuru Police Station and at Lamogi Sub County headquarters.

He said the charcoal was impounded in the sub counties of Lamogi and Pabo.
