50 rally drivers for Kampala City Festival

50 cars will go through two runs and 15 cars will be selected to go for the three runs

Over 50 rally drivers are expected to grace the Kampala City Festival 2016, the Kampala Capital City Car Sprint, public relations officer George William Ssemakula has revealed.

The rally first of its kind in the city centre will be held in Nakawa division between 1stand 2nd October, as part of the pre-Festival activities.

The 2.5km race will see drivers like Ronald Ssebuguzi, Christakis Fitidis, Leila Blick and Susan Muwonge participate.

KCCA has partnered with rally drivers to ensure that city dwellers enjoy the two day event.

Semakula said that the rally will be held in the areas around Naguru-Nakawa estates and is sponsored by Shell Uganda.

He said that all drivers will assemble with their vehicles at Shell Ntinda at about 7am for mechanical check-up before they proceed to the starting point behind Nakawa Market.

The rally will follow routes from Nakawa Market, Lugogo Bypass, Police Headquarters and Cooper Motors.

"The cars will go through Ntinda, Bukoto, Naguru in the morning hours before they proceed to Naguru where they will start," he explained.

He revealed that the 50 cars will go through two runs and 15 cars will be selected to go for the three runs from which the winner will be awarded.

Entrance to the rally will be sh10,000 for Saturday while on Sunday, fans will be treated to a free race.

On Sunday drivers will kick off at Watoto Church, go through the city centre and proceed to Nakawa division.

The chairman in charge of the festival John Dumba said that Uganda asked KCCA to host a two day event and that is the reason and they have come up with the activity.

"We want Ugandans to celebrate their city. This year the festival will be celebrated under the ‘Black Yellow Red' theme" Dumba said.
